Sunnyvale solicitors must honor posted No Soliciting signs and leave property immediately when asked, with violations treated as trespass.
Sunnyvale Municipal Code Chapter 5.32 prohibits any solicitor from knocking, ringing the bell, or otherwise attempting to contact the occupants at any residence that displays a clearly posted No Soliciting, No Trespassing, or No Peddlers sign. This rule applies to both permitted commercial solicitors and exempt canvassers (religious, political, charitable). A sign at least 3 by 5 inches posted on or near the main entrance or at the property line is generally sufficient notice. Any solicitor who continues to contact a resident after being asked to leave, or who violates a No Soliciting sign, commits a misdemeanor and may also be cited under California Penal Code Section 602 (trespass). Residents who experience repeated violations should record the solicitors company, time, and badge number and report incidents to Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety non-emergency line. Permit revocation is possible for repeat violators.
