Bartow County, GA Soliciting & Door-to-Door: Solicitor Permits (2026)

The Peddling Ordinance at chapter 44, article V of the Bartow County Code covers itinerant traders, traveling salesmen and door-to-door sellers of goods or services. Section 44-353(a) states flatly that it is unlawful to peddle in the county without a license, that licenses run six months and are renewable, and that each employee of a peddling business needs a separate license. § 43-32-1, so holding only the state license does not satisfy the county requirement. To apply, section 44-354 requires the applicant to file with the sheriff, who must decide within five business days.

The application must list the applicant's name, local address while peddling, height, weight, age, sex, race and Social Security number for a background check, a photocopy of official photo ID, a description of any vehicle used, the proposed goods or services, and consent to a sheriff-run background check. Fingerprints are taken by the sheriff's department. The signed license and photo ID must be carried at all times while peddling and shown on request to any citizen or officer. Total cost is $100 (a $50 investigation fee plus a $50 license fee, refundable if denied), with a $50 renewal fee ($25 investigation plus $25 license) every six months; the sheriff can waive or reduce fees for charitable groups, schools and churches.

Under section 44-355, the sheriff can deny a license for pending criminal complaints, a record involving theft or fraud, illegitimate goods or services, or a threat to public health or safety. Political canvassing, religious proselytizing and pre-arranged sales-representative visits are excluded from the licensing requirement by section 44-351.
