Full Breakdown

Section 63148, in Carson's business license code, requires anyone who goes house-to-house or place-to-place selling goods, taking orders, or offering future services, defined as a "solicitor" or "canvasser" in § 6303, to obtain a $50.00 permit from the City Council before soliciting. The application under § 63148.1 requires the solicitor's name, address, employer, the nature of the goods or services, and two photographs; the Director of Finance then investigates the applicant's business responsibility and character under § 63148.2. Permit holders must carry an identification card and display it on demand. A parallel track under §§ 63148.6 through 63148.15 separately licenses charitable solicitors.

Violations & Fines

Soliciting door-to-door without the required City Council permit and identification card violates §§ 63148 and 63148.5, and is enforced as an unlawful act citywide.
