Cherry Hill, NJ Soliciting & Door-to-Door: Solicitor Permits (2026)

Township Code § 6-2, most recently amended by Ordinance No. 2013-26, requires a written permit from the Cherry Hill Township Chief of Police, or a designee, before any person may canvass, solicit, distribute printed or electronic material, or peddle merchandise from house to house. 2 must disclose the applicant's full name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, height and weight, any arrest or conviction history, and the applicant's employer, along with a description of the project being canvassed for; written proof of that information must accompany the application.

Every applicant is fingerprinted and photographed at Police headquarters, but only on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, and those images become a permanent part of the permit. 1, with no group rate no matter how many employees a single company sends into the Township, and a lost or damaged permit costs $45 to replace. Permits run one year from issuance and can be refused if a background check turns up unfavorable results or evidence the applicant is not of good character. , Monday through Saturday, bars it outright on Sunday, requires the permit to be shown on request to any Township official, police officer, or resident, and requires the permit holder to notify Cherry Hill Police Communications before starting each day's canvassing.

5 exempts delivery of goods already ordered, and exempts bona fide religious, educational, charitable, fraternal, political, or service organizations, and any Township resident under eighteen, from the permit requirement, provided the group still reports its activity to Police Communications in advance.
