Lewisville, TX Special Events & Permits: Block Party Permits (2026)

Lewisville folds block parties into its special events article as a form of street-closing event (§ 7-149(5)). A block party still needs a special event permit from the neighborhood and inspection services department before it can close a street (§ 7-170), and the application must identify the proposed hours and locations of the closure (§ 7-149(5)). Any street closure tied to a block party is capped at four hours unless the city council approves a longer closing. Unlike other special events, a block party is expressly excused from needing city council sign-off for a residential street closing, so the director of neighborhood and inspection services can issue the permit directly once the application otherwise meets the article's requirements.

Organizers must still give prior written notice to every property owner within or abutting the closed block (§ 7-149(2)), remove any animal waste from the event daily and keep animals at least 300 feet from residential or commercial structures during nonoperating hours if animals are involved (§ 7-149(10)), and provide solid waste containers through the city's approved trash and recycling franchise (§ 7-149(12)). Where the block party includes tents or other temporary structures, the organizer must meet the requirements of the Lewisville Fire Code and keep any required fire lanes clear (§ 7-149(6)).

Applications cannot be filed more than 180 days before the event and, for other special events, must reach the department at least one month ahead (§§ 7-170, 7-172(b)(1)).
