Jackson County, GA Special Events & Permits: Parade Permits (2026)

Article III, "Picketing and Public Demonstrations" (Secs. 30-58 through 30-69), is the county's permit scheme for organized public assemblies. Sec. 30-61 requires at least 18 hours' written notice to the board of commissioners and sheriff, on a form the board and sheriff approve; once that form is submitted and transmitted to the sheriff, the clerk of the board of commissioners issues a written permit stating the picketer's name, the place of business or public facility to be picketed, and the hours the picketing or demonstration will run.

Sec. 30-62 bars picketing in front of a hospital, nursing home, or rest home within 200 feet, a school within 100 feet, or a residence for more than 45 minutes, and restricts picketing on state or federal highways absent compliance with those authorities' rules. Sec. 30-64 bans vehicles from a picket or demonstration line, requiring marchers to be on foot, while Sec. 30-65 confines sidewalk use to the outer five feet near the curb and keeps demonstrators eight feet off paved roads or ten feet off unpaved roads.

Sec. 30-66 limits sound amplification to a single handheld bullhorn within 300 feet of a residence and forbids any bullhorn use between sundown and sunrise, and Sec. 30-67 confines all picketing and demonstrating to the hours between sunrise and sunset. Sec. 30-69 caps placards at 36 by 36 inches of cardboard or paper, with no metal or wood attachments. Sec. 30-59 punishes any violation of this article as provided in the general penalty, Sec. 1-12, upon conviction in magistrate court.
