Tangipahoa Parish, LA Special Events & Permits: Parade Permits (2026)

Chapter 8, Article III, Division 2 governs special event permits for places of public amusement, defined in Sec. 8-84 to include amusement parks, circus shows, dance halls, music festivals and any special event where 150 or more people are expected and the public is admitted for a charge. Sec. 8-116(a) requires anyone wishing to operate, maintain or conduct such a place of public amusement in the parish, outside city boundaries, where monetary exchange for entry is implied or required, to first obtain both council approval and a TPSO special event permit; no permit issues until all conditions are met.

Events serving alcohol where guests pay for admittance or consumption must also secure a Louisiana State ATC Special Event License before council approval under Sec. 8-116(b). Sec. 8-117 requires the applicant to complete the Tangipahoa Parish Council Special Event Application and return it to the council clerk 60 days before the event, along with the site's address or legal description and proof of ownership or the owner's written consent. Sec. 8-117(3) caps each site at two special event applications during a rolling 365-day period; a site seeking more must instead follow the parish's ordinances for commercial properties.

Sec. 00 filing fee payable to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Department. The application is circulated to the Parish Health Office, Director of Public Works, TPSO, Sales Tax Division and State Fire Marshal for review, and the council holds a public hearing before granting, denying or conditioning the permit under Sec. 8-119 and Sec. 8-120. Sec. 8-87 exempts any host property already paying the parish's hotel-motel tax.
