Vermilion Parish, LA Special Events & Permits: Parade Permits (2026)

Section 28-7 of the Vermilion Parish Code requires a special event permit from the Police Jury for any person, company, partnership, organization or other entity not exempted that wishes to sponsor an event utilizing the public streets, public property, or parish-owned facilities within the parish. A parade or street gathering on a parish road falls here.

The timeline is tight. Not less than 60 days before the event the sponsor obtains an application form from the parish administration office, and the completed form must be returned not later than 45 days before the event for review by the office and the parish attorney. An organization also attaches a certified copy of its articles of incorporation or organization, a certified copy of its bylaws, a certificate of incumbency, a certificate of good standing from the Louisiana secretary of state where applicable, and one from the Internal Revenue Service for a non-profit.

Security is the sponsor's cost. The sponsor provides and pays for event security as the applicable chief of police or sheriff determines necessary and proper, chosen from a list of licensed, bonded and insured providers set by the Police Jury, with an executed contract attached to the application. The sponsor must also obtain general liability event insurance naming the Police Jury, its officers, officials, employees and agents as named insureds, with minimum coverage of $2,000,000.00 per occurrence and a valid certificate attached.

A complete application goes on the agenda of a Police Jury meeting held not less than 30 days before the event. The Police Jury can authorize the permit, attach conditions, or reject for good cause. Before issuance the sponsor supplies a copy of its insurance policy and personal guarantees executed by its officers, directors or members. The $200.00 fee is paid on issuance, and the Police Jury reserves the right to waive it for good cause.

Exemptions: events sponsored in whole or in part by the Police Jury, homecoming parades of Abbeville High School, Harvest Times High School, Vermilion Catholic High School and Mt. Carmel Elementary School, and recurring civic events such as the Louisiana Cattle Festival, the Giant Omelette Festival and Allume Society.
