Yonkers, NY Special Events & Permits: Parade Permits (2026)

City Code § 109-154 requires that no parade, aside from United States Army or Navy forces, state military forces, or the City's Police and Fire Departments, may occupy, march, or proceed along any Yonkers street except under a permit issued by the Police Commissioner and in compliance with all other applicable ordinances, rules, and regulations. In granting a permit, § 109-154B directs the Police Commissioner to limit the route of march through residential areas, with an exception for bona fide veterans' and patriotic organizations, to limit all nighttime parades, and to restrict parades, whenever possible, to local area residents.

The article also regulates funeral processions moving on Yonkers streets without a parade permit: § 109-153 bars any driver from cutting between vehicles in a funeral or other authorized procession while in motion when the vehicles are conspicuously marked as required, though that restriction lifts at intersections controlled by signals or police officers. Section 109-155 requires a funeral procession of vehicles to be identified by a pennant of a type set by the Traffic Division of the Police Department, and each driver in the procession must stay near the right-hand edge of the roadway and follow the vehicle ahead as closely as is practical and safe.

Together these sections give the Police Commissioner both the permitting gate for organized parades and route-management authority once a permit issues, layered onto separate rules governing how funeral processions must identify themselves and behave in traffic.
