Meriden, CT Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

Chapter 150 of the Meriden Code, Parks and Recreation, governs every organized gathering held on City park or recreational property. Under § 150-2A(3), the Director of the Parks and Recreation Department may designate specific areas for special events and schedule their use, but only through permits obtained in advance; anyone who holds an event without the required permit is subject to arrest or suspension of park and recreational privileges, a stiffer consequence than the chapter's standard fine. A closely linked rule, § 150-2A(4), covers commercial and fundraising activity at the same events: no person, group, or organization may expose or offer anything for sale in a park or recreational facility, or charge admission there, without the Director's written permission.

If the Director grants that permission, the Director also sets the fee the group must pay for use of the grounds or facilities, so pricing is negotiated case by case rather than fixed by ordinance. Related restrictions in the same section reinforce the permit system: tents, shelters, or signs for an event need the Director's written sign-off under § 150-2A(5), games of chance are barred except for carnivals or circuses the Director and Police Chief jointly approve under § 150-2A(11), and alcohol at an event requires the Director's written permission under § 150-2A(10).

The Meriden Police Department enforces the chapter alongside City personnel and private security under § 150-2B(1), and any violation not resulting in arrest carries the chapter's general fine of $50 to $90 under § 150-2B(2).
