Oklahoma Abandoned Vehicle Removal and Title Procedures

Under Title 47 of Oklahoma Statutes, an abandoned vehicle is generally one left unattended on public property over 24 hours or on private property without owner consent. Law enforcement may have such vehicles towed to a licensed wrecker facility. The wrecker operator must report the tow to the Oklahoma Used Motor Vehicle and Parts Commission and Service Oklahoma, which sends notice to registered owners and lienholders. After the statutory waiting period (typically 30-60 days depending on value), unclaimed vehicles may be sold at auction with proceeds applied to towing and storage costs. Cities cannot bypass these state notice requirements.

Owners face towing, storage, and administrative fees. Failure to claim a vehicle within statutory deadlines results in loss of title through state auction process.
