Washington State Fireworks Sale and Discharge Law

RCW 70.77 (the State Fireworks Law) regulates the sale, possession, and discharge of fireworks statewide. Consumer fireworks, including fountains, ground spinners, sparklers, and aerial devices containing 130 milligrams or less, may be sold roughly June 28 through July 5 and December 27 through 31, and discharged on those July dates and on New Year's Eve into January 1. Sky rockets, missile-type rockets, firecrackers, salutes, chasers, and bottle rockets are prohibited statewide except for licensed public displays. Local governments may impose stricter limits or bans, generally effective one year after adoption (RCW 70.77.250).

Possession or discharge of illegal fireworks is a gross misdemeanor with penalties up to 364 days in jail and a $5,000 fine; some violations are class C felonies.
