All consumer fireworks banned year-round in Auburn under ACC 8.24, including sparklers. Fines up to $1,000 plus confiscation. Only licensed pro displays per RCW 70.77 are allowed.
Auburn City Code Chapter 8.24 (Fireworks) prohibits the sale, possession, use, and discharge of all consumer fireworks within Auburn city limits, including items that are otherwise legal under Washington state law RCW 70.77 such as sparklers, fountains, smoke devices, ground spinners, and novelties. Washington state expressly authorizes cities under RCW 70.77.395 to enact stricter local rules, and Auburn adopted the full ban in 2014 due to wildfire risk, structure fires, injuries, and neighborhood noise complaints. Only licensed public display fireworks permitted by Valley Regional Fire Authority and the Washington State Fire Marshal are allowed. Auburn police and VRFA conduct enhanced enforcement patrols around July 4th and New Year Eve, with extra staffing at reservation borders such as the Muckleshoot lands. Fireworks purchased on tribal lands become illegal the moment they cross into Auburn city limits and are subject to immediate seizure. Non-emergency reports to Auburn PD: (253) 288-2121.
