Kent bans the sale, possession, and discharge of all consumer fireworks within city limits under Kent City Code 13.05. Only professional displays licensed by the State Fire Marshal are permitted.
Under Kent City Code Chapter 13.05, adopted pursuant to authority in RCW 70.77, the city prohibits the sale, possession, use, and discharge of consumer fireworks anywhere within the Kent city limits. This includes items commonly sold on tribal land or in neighboring jurisdictions such as firecrackers, bottle rockets, Roman candles, fountains, and aerial devices. Only sparklers and snaps are sometimes considered novelty items, but Kent has adopted the full ban making even those subject to enforcement. Violators face a civil infraction with fines starting at 257 dollars plus potential criminal charges for reckless discharge or fires caused by fireworks. Professional pyrotechnic displays may occur only with a permit from the Washington State Fire Marshal and prior approval by the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority. Enforcement is heightened around July 4 and New Year with dedicated patrols.
