North Las Vegas, NV Swimming Pools & Spas: Above-Ground Pools (2026)

North Las Vegas Municipal Code Title 15 adopts the International Residential Code with local amendments, and pool barrier requirements derive from NRS 461A (the state pool safety statute). Any above-ground pool holding more than 24 inches of water requires a building permit from the North Las Vegas Development Services Department. Barrier fencing must be at least 60 inches (5 feet) tall measured from the adjacent grade, with openings no larger than 4 inches and no climbable features on the outside. Gates must open outward away from the pool and must be self-closing and self-latching, with latches at least 54 inches above the ground. Pool ladders must be removable or equipped with lockable barriers when unattended. Pools cannot sit within utility or drainage easements and must be set back from property lines per the applicable residential zoning district (typically 5 feet). Electrical bonding and GFCI protection are required under NEC Article 680, and separate electrical permits apply. HOAs in master-planned communities like Aliante, Eldorado, and Tule Springs typically add architectural review and screening requirements.
