Bergenfield requires every pool 18 inches or deeper (or above-ground pools 30+ inches) to be surrounded by a fence at least four feet tall with no openings larger than two inches.
Per Bergenfield Chapter 277, every swimming, bathing, or wading pool with a depth of 18 inches below surrounding land, or above-surface pools with depth of 30 inches or more, must be completely surrounded by a fence or wall not less than four feet in height. Openings, holes or gaps may not exceed two inches. Picket fences may not have horizontal dimensions exceeding four inches. The barrier must prevent access beneath, through, or over it, and gates and doors must match the fence height. A dwelling house or accessory building may serve as part of the enclosure.
