Broken Arrow adopts the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) and the 2015 International Residential Code. All pools deeper than 24 inches must be enclosed by a barrier at least 48 inches high. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching. Mesh openings cannot exceed 1.75 inches. A 4-foot clearance between fence and pool edge is required. Final inspection is required before pool use.
Broken Arrow building code requires pool barriers for all residential pools and spas. Oklahoma requires minimum 48-inch (4-foot) barriers with no climbable features. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching. Latches at least 54 inches high or on pool side. The house wall can serve as part of the barrier with door alarms. HOAs may require higher barriers or specific fencing materials. Pool covers meeting ASTM standards may supplement but not replace barriers.
Non-compliant barriers: immediate correction order. Fines $100 to $500. Significant liability for drowning incidents.
