Chandler, AZ Swimming Pools & Spas: Fencing & Safety Requirements (2026)

Section 35-2205 of the zoning code sets Chandler's core residential pool-safety rules. Pools "shall not occupy any front yard," and "all pools shall be enclosed by a masonry or concrete wall or decorative fencing (such as wrought iron) at least six (6) nominal feet but not to exceed seven (7) feet in height," with a horizontal masonry/wrought-iron combination permitted if paired with a 4-inch concrete curb. Wood fencing may only replace an existing wood fence and is otherwise banned outright as a pool barrier. " Where a subdivision fronts an approved lake community and side yard fences already extend at least 18 inches into the water, no separate rear pool fence is required.

3: the barrier must be at least 72 inches above grade around its full perimeter, dropping to 48 inches only where the barrier is solely between the pool and a one- or two-family home, in which case the reduced height must also extend 3 feet horizontally past the barrier. 4 adds that bedroom or guest-room windows facing a pool enclosure need a latching device at least 54 inches above the floor (or a wire screen/4-inch-opening lock), and pet doors within the enclosure must be able to be rendered inoperable to young children.

Property Maintenance Chapter 30 separately makes it unlawful to let a pool, spa, or pond become stagnant, insect-breeding, or blighted, or to discharge pool water onto a public street or neighboring property.
