Corpus Christi Sec. 23-57 requires all residential pools to be enclosed by a fence at least 48 inches tall with no climbable features. Gates must have self-closing, self-latching hardware at 54 inches above grade.
Under Corpus Christi Code of Ordinances Sec. 23-57, every residential swimming pool must be completely enclosed by a barrier at least 48 inches (4 feet) in height. The fence cannot be constructed of climbable materials such as chain link with openings that provide footholds. Openings, holes, or gaps in the barrier must not permit passage of a sphere 6 inches in diameter. The gap between the bottom of the fence and the ground must not exceed 2 inches. All gates in the pool enclosure must be equipped with a self-closing and self-latching mechanism, and the latch must be positioned at least 54 inches above the ground to prevent access by young children. These requirements align with Texas Health and Safety Code Ch. 757 governing residential pool barriers. The federal Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act also applies to drain covers and anti-entrapment devices. Contact Code Enforcement at (361) 826-2489 for inspections.
