Cranston follows the RI Swimming Pool and Spa Code (based on ISPSC 2015). A barrier of at least 48 inches above grade on the exterior side is required for any pool deeper than 24 inches. Maximum bottom clearance is 2 inches. Openings may not allow passage of a 4-inch sphere. Chain-link maximum opening is 1.75 inches. Horizontal members below 45 inches must be on pool side. Gates must open outward, be self-closing and self-latching. Latches below 54 inches must be on pool side, at least 3 inches below gate top. ASTM F1346-compliant safety covers may qualify for certain barrier exemptions.
