Fayetteville requires all swimming pools to be enclosed by a barrier at least 4 feet high under the North Carolina Building Code. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching.
Fayetteville follows the North Carolina Building Code for swimming pool barrier requirements. All residential swimming pools must be enclosed by a fence, wall, building, or combination at least 48 inches (4 feet) high. The barrier must not allow passage of a 4-inch diameter sphere and must not be easily climbable. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching with latches on the pool side at a height not accessible to small children. Above-ground pools with walls at least 4 feet above grade may use the pool wall as part of the barrier, but access points must be secured. Development Services handles pool permits and barrier inspections.
Building code violation: fines and orders to install compliant barriers. Pool may need to be drained until barriers installed.
