New York adopts the Residential Code Appendix G statewide (effective May 12, 2020). Any residential pool over 24 inches deep must be enclosed by a barrier at least 48 inches above grade on the outside. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching with the latch on the pool side at least 40 inches above grade. Chain-link mesh must be 2ΒΌ inches or less (with slats to 1ΒΎ inches). Bottom gap max 2 inches. A temporary 48-inch barrier is required during construction, replaced by the permanent fence within 90 days.
