Subsection P(4) sets the core pool-fencing standard: the portion of the premises where an in-ground or partial in-ground pool sits must be entirely enclosed with an approved-quality chain-link wire, wooden or other fence not less than six feet nor more than ten feet in height. Aboveground pools get a lighter version of the same requirement. A deckless aboveground pool needs a hinged ladder with a locking device so the ladder locks in the up position when the pool is not in use, instead of a perimeter fence.

An aboveground pool with a deck needs a gate and fence at least three feet high measured from the deck level, and P(4) specifies that aboveground pools otherwise require no additional fencing beyond that. P(5) governs every gate in a pool enclosure: it must be kept securely closed and locked whenever the pool is not in use, fitted with a spring or similar device that automatically closes it after use, and equipped with a latch that automatically engages on closing; the latch release itself has to sit at least five feet above the adjacent ground so a small child cannot reach it.

P(6) adds a siting rule on top of the fencing requirement: no part of a pool can be closer than six feet to any property line. m.
