Richmond requires GFL carts to be set curbside by 7:00 a.m. on collection day with at least three feet of clearance from cars, mailboxes, fences, or other obstacles.
To allow GFL's automated collection arm to safely lift carts, the City of Richmond requires residents to keep three feet of empty space around each cart. Carts must be placed at the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day, with the wheels facing the home and the lid opening toward the street. Carts cannot be placed near or behind vehicles, mailboxes, fences, low-hanging tree branches, or other obstructions that would block the automated truck. After collection, carts must be returned to a location out of public view by the end of the collection day.
Improperly spaced or obstructed carts may be skipped without a return trip. Repeated placement violations or leaving carts at the curb beyond the collection day can trigger code compliance warnings.
