Recology Vacaville Solano requires that all three carts be at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the collection day, with wheels touching the curb so the lid opens to the street, handles toward the curb, the lid completely closed, and at least three feet of clear space between each cart and other carts, vehicles, lamp posts, trees, and similar objects. Carts may not block the sidewalk. Carts left improperly at the curb can be skipped and may trigger code enforcement under Vacaville Municipal Code Chapter 8.10 if left for an extended period.
Recology Vacaville Solano publishes specific placement rules for the three residential carts. On the collection day, carts must be at the curb by 6:00 a.m. with the wheels touching the curb (so the cart lid opens toward the street and the handle is in the back), the lid completely closed, and at least three feet of clear space between each cart and other carts, vehicles, lamp posts, trees, mailboxes, or other obstructions. Carts may not be placed so as to block the sidewalk. The three-foot clearance enables the truck's automated arm to grasp each cart without obstruction. Customers who place carts after the truck has serviced their street may not be collected and will be told to set out for the next service day. Cart colors are fixed: gray for garbage, blue for recycling, green for organics, consistent with California SB 1383 container color requirements. Repeated placement violations - including carts left out for days, blocking the sidewalk, or carts with overflowing lids - can be referred to Vacaville Code Enforcement and treated as a Chapter 8.10 nuisance subject to administrative citation and the Chapter 1.28 abatement process. HOAs and apartment complexes often impose additional rules about when carts may be brought out and returned.
Improperly placed carts can be skipped (no service that week). Carts left at the curb beyond the collection day, blocking the sidewalk, or causing a public nuisance can be cited under Vacaville Municipal Code Chapter 8.10 with administrative citations available under Chapter 1.28. Persistent contamination or non-compliance with cart-color requirements can trigger SB 1383 enforcement.
