Vacaville does not have a citywide overnight on-street parking ban. Most residential streets allow overnight parking provided the vehicle moves every 72 hours (California Vehicle Code Β§22651(k)) and complies with VMC Chapter 10.20 prohibitions. Specific posted zones, school zones, and downtown meter zones (VMC Chapter 10.24) impose tighter restrictions.
Unlike many California cities, Vacaville has not enacted a citywide overnight prohibition on residential street parking. Residents and visitors may generally park overnight on public streets so long as: (1) the vehicle is moved at least every 72 consecutive hours (California Vehicle Code Β§22651(k), as implemented locally through VMC Chapter 10.48); (2) the vehicle does not violate any of the prohibitions in VMC Β§10.20.020 (no blocking driveways, no parking in red/yellow/white/blue zones, no parking in front of an ADA curb ramp, no parking against traffic, no parking on a sidewalk); (3) a 10,000-lb-or-heavier commercial vehicle is not parked within 600 feet of an occupied dwelling without a Vacaville PD permit (VMC Β§10.20.020(N)); and (4) the street is not posted with a specific time restriction (school zones, street-sweeping, downtown core, etc.). VMC Chapter 10.24 establishes downtown Parking Meter Zones where meter rules end at posted times. The City uses neighborhood permit-parking districts on a case-by-case basis where authorized by ordinance.
Vehicles left in one spot more than 72 hours are subject to tow under CVC Β§22651(k); VMC Chapter 10.48 treats vehicles left 5+ days, or 72+ hours on repeat violation, as abandoned. Parking in a posted no-overnight zone, blocking a driveway, or parking in a sweeping zone during posted hours can result in tickets ranging from approximately $50 to $100+. Disabled-space and fire-lane violations are substantially higher.
