Construction hours in Vacaville, CA β sometimes called construction noise rules or contractor work-hour ordinances β set when contractors can run power tools, hammers, and heavy equipment.
Under Vacaville Municipal Code Chapter 8.10, outdoor construction or repair work on any building, structure, or other project is prohibited within 500 feet of any occupied residence between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Interior work that does not create noise noticeable to a reasonable person outside is not restricted. The Director of Community Development may grant an exception for emergency work, weather-related project delays, or 24-hour construction projects.
Vacaville Municipal Code Chapter 8.10 (Abatement of Public Nuisance) declares it a nuisance to perform outdoor construction or repair work on any building, structure, or other project within 500 feet of any occupied residence between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Monday through Saturday, or between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. The restriction is tied to proximity to occupied residences, not to zoning category, so it applies on most parcels in the City. Interior work that does not generate noise or disturbance noticeable to a reasonable person of normal sensitivity outside is exempt. The Director of Community Development (or designee) may grant a written exception for: emergency work; offsetting project delays caused by inclement weather; 24-hour construction projects; or similar occurrences. Active construction projects often have additional, more restrictive hours conditioned through Building Division permit conditions or, for larger discretionary projects, through Conditions of Approval at the Planning Commission. The Vacaville Building Division enforces permit conditions, while Code Enforcement and the Police Department respond to active disturbances. Special restrictions apply within the Airport Environs (AE) Overlay District (Vacaville Municipal Code Β§14.09.110) near Nut Tree Airport.
Construction outside the permitted hours is treated as a public nuisance under Chapter 8.10, abatable through administrative citations, stop-work orders on the permit, and cost recovery under Chapter 1.28 (Abatement of City Ordinance Violations). Continued violations on subsequent days are separately citable.
