Vacaville restricts where recreational vehicles, boats, and trailers may be stored on streets and within residential zoning districts. On-street storage of any vehicle for more than 72 consecutive hours is treated as abandoned under California Vehicle Code Β§22651(k) and Vacaville Municipal Code Chapter 10.48. RV, boat, and trailer storage on private residential property is governed by VMC Title 14 zoning standards.
Vacaville does not provide a special long-term RV parking exemption on public streets. Under California Vehicle Code Β§22651(k), any vehicle (including a motorhome, travel trailer, boat trailer, or utility trailer) left on a public street for more than 72 consecutive hours may be towed; VMC Chapter 10.48 (Abandoned Vehicles) treats a vehicle parked on a street or highway for 5 or more consecutive days (or 72 or more consecutive hours on a repeat violation) as abandoned. On private residential property, VMC Chapter 14.09.060 (Residential Zoning Districts) and Chapter 14.09.230 (Parking and Loading) limit storage of recreational vehicles, boats, and trailers to side or rear yards behind the front setback, generally on a paved or all-weather surface, and screened from public view. Storage in the required front yard or street-facing side yard is prohibited except for short-term loading and unloading. RVs may not be used as living quarters on private residential property under VMC Chapter 12.32 (Camping) except for very limited guest-accommodation periods. Commercial-style oversized vehicles (10,000-lb GVWR or more) parked within 600 feet of an occupied dwelling on a public street are independently prohibited by VMC Β§10.20.020(N).
On-street RV, boat, or trailer storage beyond 72 hours can result in citation and tow under CVC Β§22651(k) and VMC Chapter 10.48. Storing an RV, boat, or trailer in the front yard of a Vacaville residential lot can be cited as a zoning violation under VMC Title 14, with administrative citations issued by Code Enforcement and continuing daily fines until corrected. Using an RV as a residence outside an approved RV park violates VMC Chapter 12.32 (Camping).
