Fairfield Municipal Code Chapter 11 limits on-street RV and boat parking to 72 consecutive hours, twice in any 7-day window, and only directly abutting the owner's residence. Oversized vehicles cannot be stored on city streets. On private property, RVs must be on an all-weather surface and outside the front-yard setback.
Fairfield amended Chapter 11 of its Municipal Code in 2021 to crack down on street storage of recreational vehicles, boats, and oversized vehicles. Under the current rule, no vehicle, boat, or RV may park on a public right-of-way for more than 72 consecutive hours at any time. Boats and RVs serving a resident or visitor may park overnight on the public street immediately abutting the owner's residence for no more than 72 hours, twice in any seven-day periodβthis is the only on-street RV/boat allowance. Oversized vehicles (over 22 feet long, 7 feet wide, or 7 feet tall) and trailers unconnected to a tow vehicle are flatly prohibited on city streets. On private residential property, Municipal Code Chapter 27 requires that any RV, boat, or trailer be parked on a paved/all-weather surface (asphalt, concrete, pavers, brick) and not in the front-yard area unless on a legal driveway. Living in an RV parked on a public street, alley, parking lot, or other public area is prohibited except in licensed campgrounds.
Parking citations starting at $50-$100 for first offense and escalating to $200+ for repeats, plus towing at owner expense after notice. Living in an RV on the street is a separate violation subject to administrative citation under Municipal Code Chapter 27. Code Enforcement also pursues private-property storage violations as nuisance abatement.
