On-street parking in Vacaville is governed by Vacaville Municipal Code Chapter 10.20 (Stopping, Standing and Parking) on top of the California Vehicle Code. Standard prohibitions include no parking in front of lowered (accessibility) curbs, no blocking driveways, no parking in marked red/yellow/white/blue zones, and no parking against the direction of traffic. The City does not have a citywide overnight ban but enforces the 72-hour rule under CVC Β§22651(k).
VMC Chapter 10.20 establishes the City's specific on-street parking prohibitions. Under VMC Β§10.20.020, stopping, standing, or parking is prohibited in front of any portion of a curb that has been cut down, lowered, or constructed to provide wheelchair accessibility (curb ramps); in front of any driveway; in marked red zones (no stopping), yellow zones (loading), white zones (passenger only), or blue zones (disabled with placard); within an intersection or crosswalk; or anywhere else prohibited by California Vehicle Code Β§22500. The same chapter prohibits parking against the direction of traffic (vehicles must be parked with right-hand wheels parallel to and within 18 inches of the right-hand curb). The City does not impose a blanket overnight residential parking ban, but VMC Β§10.20.020(N) prohibits 10,000-lb-or-heavier commercial vehicles within 600 feet of an occupied dwelling, and CVC Β§22651(k) authorizes tow of any vehicle parked on a street more than 72 consecutive hours. VMC Chapter 10.24 sets up Parking Meter Zones in the downtown and Town Square area, and VMC Chapter 10.56 sets violations and penalties.
Parking violations in Vacaville are issued by the Vacaville Police Department and processed through the City's parking-citation contractor and Solano County traffic court. Fines vary by violation: typical fines range from approximately $50 for an expired meter to over $400 for parking in a disabled space without a placard. Failure to pay can result in DMV registration holds and tow of the vehicle.
