The code defines "green waste" as organic and biodegradable material such as leaves, grass, weeds, pruning waste, and wood from trees and shrubs, excluding painted or treated wood and food waste; larger items like tree stumps and dead trees count as bulky items instead. 010(YY) states plainly that "yard waste" has the same meaning as green waste, so there is no separate yard-waste category in the ordinance. 060(A)(3)(a) requires every owner or responsible party at a single-family premises to place source separated organic waste, which includes yard trimmings, in the organic waste container rather than the solid waste or recyclable materials container.

Green waste must be source separated unless it is commingled with food waste and collected together as organic waste.
