Warwick, RI Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Sec. 22-32 bars owners and occupants from locating any garbage, combustible rubbish or noncombustible rubbish container anywhere the director of public works finds unsatisfactory, or closer than five feet to any lot line. The same section prohibits storing the receptacle in front of the house line as its permanent spot; it may only sit there on the days set for collection. Sec. 22-33 requires every owner, agent or occupant to keep a container for rubbish and to place it at the curb for pickup on the designated collection days, capping each container at 32 gallons by volume and 100 pounds combined weight of the container and its contents.

Residents who can't physically place their own rubbish curbside because of a disability, and have no tenant or family member able to do it for them, can have the director of public works collect from wherever the container actually sits. Sec. 22-34 extends the curb rule to bulkier rubbish, requiring anything larger than container size to be placed at or near the curb on the collection days set for that category. For garbage specifically, Sec. 22-35 requires a covered, watertight receptacle on the premises, with the garbage drained and wrapped in substantial paper before it goes in, and business and commercial establishments must keep their garbage containers covered at all times.
