Certificated haulers in unincorporated Snohomish County must offer bulky-materials collection for reuse, recycling or disposal, both inside and outside the recycling service zone. Residents can also self-haul large items to county solid waste transfer stations for a disposal fee.
SCC 7.42.040(4) requires each solid waste collection company to offer bulky-materials collection service, for reuse, recycling or disposal, both inside and outside the recycling service zone, and encourages cost-effective routing for periodic bulky pickups. Beyond hauler pickups, residents may self-haul large or bulky waste to Snohomish County Solid Waste transfer stations and drop-boxes, where disposal fees apply under the county's solid waste fee schedule (SCC Chapter 7.41). Abandoned junk vehicles are handled separately under the abandoned-vehicle process rather than as ordinary bulky waste.
Illegally dumping bulky items instead of using hauler pickup or a transfer station is unlawful disposal under SCC 7.35.120, ranging from a civil infraction to a gross misdemeanor.
