Florence County, SC Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

The six-yard and smaller metal 'green box' containers Florence County places around the unincorporated area are reserved strictly for household domestic garbage and refuse. Section 13-1(5) of the Florence County Code lists what does not qualify: stumps, limbs, white goods (major appliances like refrigerators and stoves), bricks, rocks, cement, bedsprings, other appliances, construction debris, furniture, auto parts, yard trash and dead animals are all excluded from the household container. Section 13-1(6) directs residents to take those bulky items to one of two places instead: the county landfill's collection station, or a '40-yard, roll-off box' at one of the county's designated mini-stations set up specifically for oversized loads.

Commercial haulers are separately barred from putting any material, bulky or otherwise, into the residential green boxes under Section 13-1(3). ' Landfill fees for disposing of bulky waste follow the separate fee schedule in Article III of Chapter 13: homeowners bringing their own household refuse to the landfill are not charged a dumping fee under Section 13-30, while the county's annual household fee under Sections 13-31 and 13-32 helps fund the overall collection and disposal system billed through property tax notices.
