Greensboro, NC Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Section 25-13(h) of the Code of Ordinances gives residential units and small businesses served by the automated curbside system weekly bulk trash collection; residents in stationary-container (dumpster) complexes can also get bulk service if the material is properly prepared and brought to the closest city curb line. Large commercial establishments and industries do not get bulk trash service. on the collection day and kept separate from other refuse. Anything that cannot be readily loaded by two people, or is too large for the collection vehicle, is not collected.

Windows, doors, mirrors and other large glass items must be taped with an X so they won't shatter, gasoline and oil must be drained from lawn equipment, and oxygen tanks, propane tanks, oil tanks, camper or boat parts, and automotive parts are refused outright. Carpet must be rolled and tied in sections no longer than five feet. Building materials or construction/remodeling debris generated by a professional contractor are not collected, the contractor must dispose of them, though the city will take up to two thirty-two-gallon containers of material from a homeowner's own small remodeling project.

Off-street special bulk pickup is available for an extra fee under Section 25-21(d), currently $125 per truckload, and unscheduled bulk collections outside Section 25-13(h) cost $250 under Section 25-21(l), with fourteen days' notice to the owner before that fee and collection under Section 25-22.
