Howard County collects up to four bulk items, each under six feet wide, placed at the curb within five feet of the roadway by the night before your trash day. Scrap metal must be scheduled, limited to two collections per year.
Large household items are eligible for bulk collection. Place them at the curb within five feet of the county roadway by the night before your trash-collection day, without blocking mailboxes, hydrants, or cars. A maximum of four bulk items is taken per pickup, and each item must be less than six feet in width; items too large for two workers to lift are tagged and left. Scrap-metal ('white goods' and metal items) must be scheduled in advance, must be under ten feet in length or width, and only two scrap collections may be scheduled per year. Only county contractors may remove curbside scrap metal.
Unauthorized removal of curbside scrap metal violates Howard County Code Sec. 18.610, a Title 24 civil offense (Class C first, Class B subsequent).
