Howard County adopts Maryland's traffic rules and enforces them through Title 21 of the County Code. A vehicle may not be stopped, stood, or parked on a sidewalk, in an intersection, on a crosswalk, in front of a public or private driveway, within 15 feet of a fire hydrant, or within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection. During a declared snow emergency, parking is prohibited on posted Snow Emergency Routes, including all state-numbered roads. There is no general countywide overnight on-street parking ban, but individual streets and communities may post their own limits.
Illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed and towed; fire-hydrant and snow-emergency-route violations are frequent enforcement priorities.
