La Plata County, CO Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

La Plata County Code § 46-91 is the fee table for large and bulky items dropped at the county's two convenience centers, the Marvel and Bayfield Solid Waste Convenience Centers. The Board of County Commissioners of La Plata County, Colorado, established the fees by Resolution 2023-26, effective October 24, 2023, and the resolution supersedes Resolutions 1998-46, 2007-43 and 2019-45.

Furniture is priced in four size tiers. Small furniture, listed as chairs, outdoor bistro set, coffee tables and end tables, is $20 per item. Medium furniture, listed as loveseats, most dining tables and dishwasher, is $30 per item. Large furniture, listed as full size sofas, dining room sets, ovens and water heaters, is $40 per item. Extra large furniture, listed as full size sleeper sofas, sofas with motorized recliners, large sectionals or any other abnormally large furniture, is $50 per item.

Mattresses and box springs are $30 per item, and yard waste is $8.00 per load. The rest of the table covers loads rather than single items: compactable waste is $19.12 per cubic yard, household waste of a few bags is $3/bag with a two bag minimum, and light construction and demolition debris is $31.28 per cubic yard. A note under the table states that no heavy construction trailers or dump trailers are accepted. The section carries a cross reference to the fee schedule in Appendix A of the code.

These fees sit in Article III of Chapter 46, apart from the collection duty in Article II. Section 46-56(I) requires the owner or occupant of each property in the unincorporated area to secure an approved method of collection, and one approved method is transport and proper disposal of a person's own rubbish to a designated facility.
