Longmont Waste Services runs a Large Item Collection program from February through October each year. Fees are $60 for one to two items and $75 for three items (the maximum), billed to the utility account. Items must not be set out earlier than the Saturday before scheduled pickup, which falls on the customer's regular trash collection day. Schedule by calling Waste Services at (303) 651-8416. Many common bulk items are excluded β including all major appliances, electronics, refrigerators, freezers, and contractor construction debris.
The Large Item Collection program is administered by Longmont Waste Services under LMC Chapter 14.12 Solid Waste. The collection season runs February through October β no large-item pickups are scheduled November through January because of weather and crew constraints. Fees are $60 for 1-2 items and $75 for 3 items (the per-collection cap); fees are added to the customer's monthly utility bill. The pickup happens on the customer's regular trash collection day, and items may not be placed at the curb earlier than the Saturday before that day. Accepted items are oversized goods that don't fit in the curbside cart β couches, mattresses, box springs, carpet rolls (cut and bound to 4-foot lengths), bed frames, tables, chairs. Excluded items: refrigerators, freezers, propane tanks (these contain refrigerant or pressurized gas requiring special handling); large electronics including TVs, computers, and microwaves (e-waste); household appliances such as washers, dryers, dishwashers, and stoves; construction/remodeling/demolition debris from contracted services; concrete, rock, dirt, sod; hazardous and infectious materials; bulk liquids; vehicle parts or bodies; business or home-occupation waste; and dead animal carcasses (except small pests). Refrigerators and other Freon-containing appliances must be processed through a private hauler or the Boulder County Hazardous Materials Management Facility. Electronics go through Longmont's periodic e-waste recycling events or private e-waste recyclers. Schedule large-item pickups by calling Waste Services at (303) 651-8416 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, or by submitting a non-urgent request through the ServiceWorks portal.
Setting out a large item earlier than the Saturday before pickup violates LMC Chapter 14.12 and the Waste Services Guidelines and can be cited by Code Enforcement. Putting excluded items (appliances, electronics, construction debris) into the large-item set-out will result in the items being left and the customer being charged a return trip plus, in some cases, an abatement charge if they remain in the right-of-way. Illegal dumping of bulk items is a separate offense under LMC and is prosecutable in Longmont Municipal Court at up to $999 and/or 180 days under LMC Title 1 general penalty, plus restitution for cleanup.
