Montgomery County, VA Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Section 9.1-13, Household Furniture, White Goods And/or Brush, lets the county collect normal discarded brush, furniture and appliances on request, naming sofas, chairs, beds, refrigerators, washers, dryers and hot water heaters as examples. A resident wanting the service applies to the county administrator, who then sets an approximate collection date once the fee established under § 9.1-14 has been paid in advance, unless the county waives it. The resident is responsible for placing the discarded items in a location accessible to collection equipment and approved by the county administrator, and for timing: items go out no earlier than noon on the day before the scheduled collection and no later than 8:00 a.m. on the collection date itself. The service originates in the county's 1992 solid waste ordinance (Ord. No. 1992-3, 7-27-92). Because this sits in Article II, § 9.1-10 keeps it out of Blacksburg and Christiansburg, where each town runs its own bulk pickup program for its residents.
