Montgomery County, VA Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 9.1-15, Frequency of Door-to-Door Collection, sets the baseline schedule: in areas where the county authorizes door-to-door collection, solid waste is collected at least once a week from residential premises. The section gives the county room to demand more from higher-volume generators: motels, restaurants, institutions and commercial establishments may be required to have more frequent collection if the board of supervisors, its collection agency, or the health department determines that more frequent pickup is essential to protect public health. The same section lets the county require sanitary storage of solid waste between pickups. Section 9.1-15 dates to the county's original 1992 solid waste ordinance (Ord. No. 1992-3, adopted July 27, 1992) and, like the rest of Article II, applies only in areas where door-to-door collection is authorized outside Blacksburg and Christiansburg under § 9.1-10, since each town runs its own collection schedule for its residents.
