Norfolk offers twice-weekly bulk waste pickup on yard waste days for items like furniture, appliances, and up to 10 cubic yards of material. Schedule by calling 311 or using MyNorfolk app. No tires, hazardous waste, or construction debris.
Norfolks bulk waste program allows residents to dispose of large items including furniture, mattresses, appliances, and household goods that do not fit in the regular refuse cart. Collection is available on designated bulk/yard days, generally one to two days per week separate from the regular trash day. Residents should call 311 or schedule via MyNorfolk at least 24 hours before their bulk day to ensure pickup. Place items at the curb no earlier than 5 PM the night before and no later than 7 AM on the day of collection. Acceptable items include couches, tables, chairs, box springs, mattresses, white goods (refrigerators require Freon removal documentation), grills with tanks removed, and yard debris bundled in 4-foot lengths under 40 pounds. Prohibited from bulk: tires (4 per year can be taken to the Transfer Station), car batteries, motor oil, paint, electronics (free at HRSD e-waste events), concrete, bricks, dirt, and construction debris from contractor work. Total bulk volume per pickup is limited to approximately 10 cubic yards.
Placing prohibited items or excess volume may result in non-collection and civil penalties. Illegal dumping carries Class 1 misdemeanor penalties under VA Code 33.2-802.
