Rockville, MD Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

The City of Rockville Department of Public Works provides bulk trash collection service for oversized items that cannot fit in standard trash containers. Residents may schedule bulk pickups by calling DPW at 240-314-8570. Each household is entitled to a limited number of bulk pickups per year at no additional cost. Items must be placed at the curb on the scheduled date and should not be set out more than 24 hours in advance. Accepted bulk items include furniture, mattresses, box springs, large appliances (with doors removed for safety), carpeting rolled and tied in sections no longer than 4 feet, and other large household items. Items not accepted for bulk pickup include electronics and e-waste (which must go to Montgomery County recycling centers), hazardous materials including paint, chemicals, and batteries (accepted at county HHW collection events), tires (accepted at the county transfer station for a fee), and construction debris (requires a private hauler). Appliances containing refrigerant such as refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners must have refrigerant professionally removed before pickup or be taken to a certified facility. Montgomery County operates the Shady Grove Transfer Station at 16101 Frederick Road for self-hauling of items not accepted for curbside bulk collection.
