Sammamish does not regulate bulky-item disposal by ordinance; large items, extra garbage and special materials are handled through the contracted hauler. As of January 1, 2024, residents can schedule free curbside collection of batteries, small appliances, scrap metal, fluorescent tubes/bulbs, household items and rigid plastics by contacting Republic Services at (206) 777-6441.
There is no Sammamish municipal-code provision governing bulky-item or large-item pickup; like all collection in the city, it is arranged through the contracted hauler. The City's solid waste FAQ describes an expanded curbside program that began January 1, 2024, under which residents can schedule free collection of additional recyclable and special materials β 'batteries, small appliances, scrap metal, household items, fluorescent tubes/bulbs, and rigid plastics' β by calling Republic Services at (206) 777-6441 to schedule. Standard household bulky items (furniture, mattresses, appliances) and quantities beyond cart capacity are arranged directly with the hauler, which sets any applicable fees. The City also notes residents may keep personal cans 'for extra waste in case of inclement weather or for general storage,' and that during extended weather disruptions customers can take garbage to a City drop-off point for a bill credit. Importantly, discarded refrigerators and similar appliances may not simply be stored outdoors while awaiting disposal: SMC 16.25.225(2)(b) defines an abandoned refrigerator or similar non-operating equipment on the premises as 'an attractive nuisance,' so bulky appliances must be removed or properly collected, not left in the yard. King County also operates transfer stations and the 'What do I do with...?' tool for items haulers won't collect curbside.
Sammamish levies no city fine on bulky-item collection logistics, which the hauler manages. But leaving bulky appliances, refrigerators or piles of discarded items outdoors while 'awaiting' disposal can violate SMC 16.25.225 (no accumulation of rubbish/garbage; abandoned appliances are an attractive nuisance) and SMC 16.25.200 (clean, sanitary exterior property), enforceable under SMC Title 23 with $250β$1,000/day penalties.
