Sammamish contracts curbside collection to private haulers — Republic Services serves most of the city and WM (Waste Management) serves some annexed neighborhoods. Garbage, recycling and weekly compost/yard-and-food-waste are collected on a set weekly day; compost service is included in the garbage rate. There is no city collection ordinance — service is set by the hauler contract.
Sammamish does not codify garbage collection in its municipal code (former SMC Chapter 8.05 is repealed). Instead, curbside service is provided under contract. The City's solid waste page states curbside collection 'is provided to most of Sammamish by Republic Services' and that 'Certain neighborhoods in Sammamish are serviced by WM (formerly known as Waste Management) due to the timing of their annexation.' Service includes 'garbage, recycling, and yard waste/compost.' Each address keeps a fixed collection day: 'Your garbage, recycling, and compost service will continue to be collected on the same day of the week.' Food and yard waste (compost) collection is bundled with garbage service — the City notes 'Weekly compostable services are embedded in the single-family residential garbage rates,' so there is no extra charge for compost. If a pickup is missed, the City's FAQ says containers will be 'serviced on the next business day rather than waiting an entire week,' and during prolonged weather disruptions customers can use a City drop-off point for a bill credit. Residents set service levels (cart size), report missed pickups, and handle billing directly with Republic Services at (206) 777-6441, or with WM via wmnorthwest.com/sammamish. Because collection is contractual, the operative 'rules' are the hauler's service guidelines plus Washington state solid-waste law, not a Sammamish ordinance.
There is no city penalty for collection logistics — service issues (missed pickups, cart sizing, billing) are handled by the contracted hauler. Property-side container standards are still enforceable: failing to use approved leakproof, covered containers or letting garbage accumulate violates SMC 16.25.225 and is a nuisance under SMC 23.30.010, with Title 23 penalties.
