Full Breakdown

Under Sec. 38-7, the City of Shelby picks up sofas, mattresses, chairs, tables and similar bulky furniture only twice a year, in spring and fall, on dates set by city council; other special collection dates need council approval. Loose leaves and limbs may be set at the curb between the roadway and sidewalk under Sec. 38-32, but from April through September leaves and grass clippings are collected only if bagged. Under Sec. 38-34, logs, limbs, branches or trimmings over four feet long, six inches thick, or piled larger than 3x3x4 feet won't be collected by sanitation crews: residents must haul those themselves.

Violations & Fines

Missing a spring or fall bulk pickup means storing large items until the next scheduled date, hauling them to the county landfill, or hiring a private hauler: oversized logs and limbs are never picked up curbside.
