Appleton, WI Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Sec. 15-33 of the Appleton Municipal Code sets who gets curbside service and how often. Under subsection (a), residential solid waste is collected once a week and recycling once every two weeks, both on a route schedule the Director of Public Works establishes and keeps on file with the Department of Public Works; waste set out for pickup has to have come from the residence being serviced, and if it originated at a different property the crew leaves it. Subsection (b) pushes commercial establishments out of the municipal system entirely: they must privately contract for both solid waste and recycling hauling, though existing commercial customers still using the City's 90-gallon containers keep weekly pickup.

Subsection (c) is explicit that the City does not collect industrial waste at all. Yard waste, brush and bulky overflow items each run on their own separate schedule from regular trash under subsections (d) through (f), posted in the Department of Public Works rather than fixed by ordinance, so the exact week can shift year to year. Subsection (g) states plainly that the City will not collect grass clippings under any collection stream, and subsection (h) rules out toxic and hazardous waste from municipal pickup altogether, leaving residents to use state-approved disposal channels for those materials.

Fees tied to any of these collection streams, including overflow tags and can charges, are set by the Department of Public Works under Sec. 15-34.
