Bayonne, NJ Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Bayonne does not fix its recycling and leaf-composting collection days directly in the ordinance text; instead, § 26-1.7 gives the Recycling Coordinator authority to establish the day or days of collection and the collection or pick-up sites for leaves (for composting), newspapers, glass food and beverage containers, aluminum beverage cans, and any other materials the City later designates for recycling. Because the schedule can change, the ordinance builds in a public notice requirement rather than a fixed calendar. Before any collection date takes effect, the Coordinator must publish notice of the designated day(s) and site(s) in the City's official newspaper, and in any other publication the Coordinator deems necessary, for a continuous period of at least 14 days.

That notice period must begin at least 15 days before the first scheduled collection or pick-up date, giving residents lead time to prepare. The Coordinator can supplement newspaper publication with a mailed flyer or newsletter sent to every dwelling unit, public or private institution, and commercial or industrial establishment in the City, spelling out the specific dates and sites. Verification of collection days for residents therefore runs through whatever the Recycling Coordinator most recently published or mailed, rather than a permanent schedule printed in the code.

Chapter 26's general enforcement and penalty provisions, §§ 26-1.9 and 26-1.10, apply once a schedule is in effect: the Police Department and Solid Waste Division enforce compliance with the announced days and sites, with fines running from $25 for a first offense up to $1,250 and 90 days in jail.
