Bridgeport, CT Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Municipal Code § 8.60.050(C) puts the collection calendar in the hands of the director of the Department of Public Facilities, who designates both the days on which collections will be made and the time containers must be at the curb. The duty to get them there falls on the property owner or the person served, and the placement standard is specific: receptacles go as near to the curbline as is practicable.

Timing depends on where in Bridgeport you live. The baseline rule is that containers appear at the curb at the director's designated time on collection day. In any residential area of the city, though, the code allows set-out on the evening preceding the date collections will be made, so households do not have to scramble ahead of an early truck.

The containers themselves are regulated alongside the schedule. Bridgeport requires watertight, tightly covered cans or bags in the standard 20 or 30 gallon sizes, kept in good condition, and no receptacle may weigh more than 75 pounds when full. Containers that do not conform, or that pose a hazard, can be confiscated by the city without compensation.

Recycling is folded into the same curbside system. Materials the director designates as mandatory recyclables must be separated from regular trash before set-out. A load that mixes the two is refused, both by the collectors at the curb and again at the disposal facility, which leaves the mixed material behind until the resident sorts it.
