Moore County, NC Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 8-156, adopted with the county's original 1987 Solid Waste article, puts the weekly-removal duty on two parties at once: the person who occupies the property where garbage is stored, and any solid waste collector who is paid to haul it away. Both must clear all garbage from the premises at least once a week, setting the floor the county expects self-haulers and contracted collectors alike to meet, even though the article does not fix particular collection days for individual routes, leaving scheduling to private haulers operating under permits issued by the health director (Sec.

8-160). The section also imposes conduct standards on the removal itself: work must be done in a clean and orderly manner without damaging the storage container, and if solid waste spills during pickup, the collector must clean it up and leave the premises in a sanitary condition. Because Sec. 8-155 requires enough on-site container capacity to hold a full week's accumulation, the two sections work together, sizing storage to the weekly removal cycle. The requirement applies only to the unincorporated county; Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen and the other municipalities in Moore County set their own collection rules within their corporate limits.
